4 days on the road

Somehow four days have past since we left The very beautiful Narrabeen beach. Gerroa has been the perfect little place to settle into life in a van. Staying at Seven Mile beach caravan park, we have everything you need from a small caravan park including pool for the kids and the ever important jumping pillow. On Friday night, the reception car park was converted to the most random outdoor movie theatre, complete with wooden pallets with pillows and blankets for the kids to lie on. Sadly the audio on the movie was drowned out by the wind (and the very friendly game cockatoo who kept saying “hello cookie” much to the kids delight)

Friday we made the trip up to the water park at Jamberoo. It seems so odd that such a huge water park exists in such a gorgeous and scenic part of the hillside and it blends in so well that you don’t even know it is there until suddenly you are there. Lots of fun had by all, with the slight exception of a moment of frustration from Kiera when she realised she is still too little for the big water slide! I suspect Finlay was slightly relieved by this news as he was very quick to declare that ‘he wouldn’t go on the big slide if Kiera couldn’t’! (Little sis to the rescue!)

The weather has been pretty wild and quite an amazing lightning storm came through last night. The van and all equipment holding up well and I am very grateful to the veteran van couple who spotted us on day one and pointed out a better way for us to put up the awning so it would withstand the wind. They were also quick to share some helpful hints from the wise on ways to keep ants out of your van when you are in the desert! Clearly we still look like rookies and we will take all the helpful hints we can get!

We made it into Gerringong in time for some Christmas parade action. It was lovely to see the town out in force to show support and the biggest cheers of the day were saved for the fire and rescue float.

After multiple trips to various caravan shops in Nowra, Andy has sorted out a bike rack for the van and numerous other small jobs we didnt have time to resolve before we left. Time to practice our pack up once again and hit the road tomorrow to head to South Durras.
