Cape Hillsborough

A short hour and a half south of Airlie Beach, we checked in to Cape Hillsborough Nature Park. Looking ahead at the weather forecast, we knew we would be dodging showers at this one but it seemed as good a place as any time hang out in the rain. Well known for its resident beach living kangaroo population, we were not disappointed when a very friendly roo joined us for a late afternoon walk on the beach between showers.

One of the biggest prices of living in paradise has to be the sandflies and mosquitoes and unfortunately Miss Kiera is bearing the brunt of these at the moment. After a number of bites turning infected, we managed to get some antibiotics to knock the infection on its head asap. I guess timing is probably good with the weather and we spent a couple of days laying low, inside the van (and away from sandflies) and chance for the infection to clear up properly. Also good chance to get ahead on school work!

We took advantage of breaks in the rain and still enjoyed exploring the beaches. Andy and Fin took a walk over to an island at low tide

And the resident kangaroo population clearly don’t mind a little bit of grey weather

The sun came out for our final morning at Cape Hillsborough and we were treated to some of the spectacular views of the area. It really is a stunning coastline.

Time to keep moving but Cape Hillsborough will stay in the highlights as a beautiful spot to visit and I am sure we will come back one day to explore the National Park some more.
