We left the small fishing towns of Peaceful Bay and Windy Harbour and continued on our trip of the coastline to Augusta, 277km south west of Windy Harbour. We really can’t complain about the weather on the trip so far, particularly with the drenching the east coast have had over the last two months, and to be honest we have been super lucky. We knew the forecast for the next few days wasn’t looking amazing but the van needed a wash anyway so not to worry! Thankfully the weather stayed dry for the drive and setting up camp in Augusta.
We stayed at a lovely little private camp just outside of town. Owned by an older couple, they have a great set up with six powered sites and a brilliant central camp kitchen, complete with pizza oven and a super friendly resident cattle dog.

Planning for the wet weather, we booked into see Jewel Cave – apparently the biggest show cave in W.A and I have to admit, it was pretty spectacular. It was cool to see the roots of the Karri trees gown down through the roof of the cave. One of the columns even looked like a Karri forest.

Augusta is the most south westerly point in Australia. Unfortunately the lighthouse is under repair at the moment so we were not able to get up there but it’s cool to think that this is the meeting point of the Indian and Southern Oceans. You can certainly feel the warmer currents in the water when you dip your toes in – much needed as the air temp is definitely dropping and it’s Ugg boot weather in the evenings for sure.
The shallow waters around Augusta are home to some pretty huge stingrays and kids had lots of fun spotting them. They are HUGE!
It’s officially time to start heading north!
