Taking the idea of small fishing village a step further, we travelled 150km from Peaceful Bay and set up camp at Windy Harbour for a couple of nights. The settlement of Windy Harbour is located on 190 hectares of Crown land, surrounded by D’Entrecasteau National Park.
The settlement itself consists of around 230 leasehold cottages used for holiday getaways and fisherman cottages. We stayed at the Council operated campground – a small, grassy campground located next to the beach. Lovely little spot to explore the National Park.

After a swim at Cathedral Rocks, we decided to take a bit of an explore along a path that lead through the National Park.

A little further along the track, we were treated to some beautiful look out spots. If we had been anywhere ‘more accessible’, I guess these lookouts would have had lines of people waiting to take photos. As it was, we had the place to ourselves.

A short drive into the National Park and we came across the very dramatic Salmon Beach.

We attempted to go fishing but it turns out that fishing off a beach when the waves are big is pretty tricky. After a chat with some local aboriginal families, Andy learned all about the best tide to fish and how to look for the right spot. Learning from the locals.

Onwards….
