Friendly faces

After two months on the road, 19 different camp stops and more than 3000km along our journey, we finally caught up with some friendly faces from the Northern Beaches at Point Drummond on the Eyre Peninsula. For a record breaking $5 per night, we found ourselves camped on a very stunning headland overlooking a very beautiful beach and the only down side to be honest was the flies!

Once again, SA has been such a surprise! Our drive across the Eyre Peninsula from Port Gibbon took only a couple of hours but we travelled from Rocky coastline, through rolling green hills and then back to stunning coastline. The difference in water temperature is insane. Port Gibbon we were kiting in shorts and swimmers, Point Dummond I think I need my steamer! This is well and truly the southern ocean and it’s super cold!

The plan was to stay here a couple of nights… we stayed at least 4. I say at least as I am not 100% sure if it was 4 or 5 nights in the end – they all blend into one in the end. Better safe than sorry though, I paid $25 just incase! The boys had fun fishing. Our friends caught/ found abalone (I don’t feel you can really say you caught a static animal!) and then we had to Google what to do with it to eat it! It looked pretty disgusting to be honest but I was actually surprised that it tasted ok!

There has been zero surf along the entire coast of SA but wind has been awesome for kiting. The highlight of this place though has to be the dolphins. They have cruised by the coats a few times a day… every day! I love seeing dolphins but usually they are too far gone to be able to point them out to the kids. These dolphins were different. Clearly they hang around this area. My first morning kite and they were swimming under my board – magical. Even more magical was the chance to get up close in the water with them with Finnie.

Another truly remarkable place on our travels and we feel every more grateful for this opportunity. Time to keep exploring the Eyre and it’s fun to have some time travelling with some friends.
