Here we are, camping on the edge of the mighty Murray River which forms the border between NSW and VIC. The camp found at Picnic Point is nestled in the Murray Valley National Park and is another little gem. It’s a true bush camp site – very relaxed and everyone super friendly. It’s very similar in feel to the camp sites along the edge of the Hawkesbury in Sydney where we used to head for wakeboarding weekends. Lots of people here with jet skis and wakeboards and permanent cabins along the edge of the river for keen fishermen or wakeboarders.
The drive from Jugiong took around 5 and half hours, broken up with a pit stop in Wagga Wagga for supplies. Van fully stocked and ready for a few days of bush camping. The scenery on the drive through to Wagga was beautiful- undulating hills and reminded me of the Peak District in the UK. As we left Wagga, the hills disappeared, replaced by field after field of vast farming land. Plenty of small townships along the way – some of which can only have a handful of houses.

Yesterday we took a drive over the river and into Echuca in VIC to sort out some more jobs – always something to fix or find! Quick trip to get a mail removed from the front tyre of the car, trip to Bunnings for supplies to allow us to collect fresh water, BCF for water tanks and a battery shop and we are all set again.
Evening at the camp site was one of the most fun evenings we have had. Andy took the kids fishing whilst I sorted out dinner. Kiera reported back in about 30 minutes that they had no luck and Finlay’s best catch was a leaf! We wandered over just in time to see dad land a small Murray Cod!

Spent the evening hopping in the river from the jetty and floating with the current around to the beach. Lots of laughs – some nervous laughter once fin learned how large Murray cod can grow!

One more day here then we will set out towards Halls Gap in the Grampians.
