Well Christmas has finally arrived and Santa well and truly found our little slice of paradise here at South Durras on the south coast of NSW.
We all opted for different forms of activity on Christmas Eve. Fin had an early bike ride with his friend Toby and family, riding up to Wasp headland and checking out the local beaches. Andy had a surf. Kiera spent a good several hours in the pool and I managed to clock up my second run of the trip. Exercise out of the way… now time to eat…

The celebrations started early, with a roast beef feast on Christmas Eve and open air dining and drinks with the camping neighbours. After days of rain, we were thankfully blessed with a clear evening so preparations of the runway for Santa’s sleigh could commence. The Big 4 caravan park at South Durras really does live up to its name of a bush camp. It’s a super small caravan park and we are nestled into a lovely little corner surrounded by bush and a handful of other caravans. With the Eglin family camped opposite, we have a little neighbourhood feel and kids running between our camp set ups – perfect!

For Christmas Day we have been blessed with glorious sunshine – perfect for a spot of beach cricket (or baseball depending on who was bowling!), building sandcastles and burying dad in the sand.

We may be on a camp site but our Christmas meal was far from any camping meal I have ever had! Full credit to the Eglin family for meal planning and preparation, we cooked up a storm between us! Roast pork on the Webber, roast potatoes in the air fryer, roast parsnip and pumpkin salad (again super crispy thanks to the air fryer), Daves special pigs in blanket, honey glazed roast ham and hot rolls (one again and air fryer win). Officially time for a snooze.

Our time at South Durras really has been amazing. Even the rain hasn’t stopped play too much. We have surfed, explored, swum at the beach, built lots of sand castles and generally laughed a lot. We have also enjoyed some down time and the chance to settle into the van! Andy has continued his van modifications, fitting two new fans and a water filter tap – after all, it wouldn’t be Christmas holidays without at least some DIY! we are grateful for the opportunity to share this week with good friends. Looking forward to next week and welcoming in the new year with the Taylor clan.
